A discussion of why it is important to preserve historic buildings: Context, Craftsmanship, Narrative, Sustainability. This presentation is approximately 45 minutes and can include PowerPoint slides if a projector is available.

Historic Tax Credit Basics

State Historic Preservation Tax Credits of up to 25% of the cost of renovation may be available for qualifying projects. This presentation gives an overview of the application process, a brief discussion of the standards for historic rehabilitation, and some example projects. It is approximately 1 hour long and can include handouts.

Lead is a poison, particularly for children and pregnant women. This presentation provides an overview of the lead paint problem in older homes as well as some strategies for minimizing risk during every day living and renovation. This presentation can be tailored to run between 30 minutes and two hours, depending on the audience and the information requested.

New homeowners in particular may be unaware of how to properly maintain the many parts of a home in good working order. This 1.5 hour presentation outlines basic home maintenance tasks, an annual recommended maintenance schedule, budgeting for known maintenance costs, and expected life-cycle costs for various materials and appliances.
