I have Masters Degrees in both Architecture and Social Work. reNew Design Studio's underlying philosophy is that a good designer's roles include both helping define the client's vision and creatively translating that vision into drawings that accurately describe the project to the contractors. Of course defining needs and resolving conflicts between the needs, the vision, and the budget is often one of the more difficult parts of the process! Not only can I help with creative solutions, I can also help make the decision-making process run more smoothly.
With over 10 years of years experience in residential renovation, addition, and new construction design you can be confident in creative and complete service. I have designed and prepared construction drawings for over 80 renovation projects that range in size from a small bathroom through a multi-million dollar warehouse-to-loft conversion!
Under certain circumstances such as major structural modification to an existing building, the permit reviewer may require the services of a licensed structural engineer. I can refer you to a structural engineer or contract with one directly if the need arises.
I grew up in Ames and moved to St. Louis to attend university. I ended up falling in love with the city and lived there for 14 years. In 2007, my wife and I decided to move back to central Iowa to be closer to family. I now own reNew Design Studio, organize a group called the Des Moines Rehabbers Club, and live in the Drake neighborhood with my wife and two kids.
